Introduction

Name of the department: DEPARTMENT OF FORENSIC MEDICINE & TOXICOLOGY

The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology deals with the science that deals with the application of medical knowledge to legal questions. The subject of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology as a part of curriculum is taught for IInd BHMS over a period of a year. In the practical aspect the dept ensures that the student is competent enough to interpret the post mortem correctly, to identify the poisons and the diseases and also is able to understand the post mortem findings.

Aim: The student shall:

    • Be acquainted with Medico-Legal Procedures, Medical Ethics and various provisions of Consumer Protection Act.
    • Be competent to handle Medico-Legal Cases apart from giving evidence in such cases whenever required.
    • Have the knowledge of Toxicology to identify the Poison and adopt necessary Emergency Measures.
    • Expand his knowledge of Materia Medica by incorporating the knowledge gained through the study of Toxicology.
